In Greenville we have several disciplines in addition to Drug Analysis and Scanning Electron Microscopy. They are Document Analysis, Fire Debris Analysis (Arson), Ballistics Comparison and Trace Evidence Analysis.

The breechface marks on fired cartridge casings can be matched to determine if a specific gun fired the cartridge in the Ballistics section.

This is a Total Ion Chromatogram of a Gasoline standard from the Arson section. Gasoline is actually a mixture of compounds instead of being a single component.

This is an Electrostatic Detection Apparatus (ESDA). It is an instrument used in the Questioned Documents section to make indented writing visible. The image below is an example of what it can do.

The document on the left is the original written out by our Document Examiner. The document on the right is the result of the ESDA analysis of the paper with the indented writing that was underneath the document on the left when it was written.
